A large, robust growing carnivorous tropical pitcher plant with very large, fat pitchers, red on the outside, and red speckled on the inside. The traps are like fat red sausages hanging on the vine. The mouth is wide and oval with an up turned hood and prominent wings. Upper pitchers are funnel shaped, pale green with red speckles, and a striped peristome (collar). It grows in the open or shade, among grasses and shrubs. It is heat tolerant and does well in a window. It is quite good at catching large insects, such as: stink bugs, wasps and yellow jackets. It is a great house plant, that can be grown outdoors in the warm weather with a minimal transition period. It is a good as a houseplant or in the greenhouse.
