The Key to any build is a solid foundation, without that, the chances of long term sustainability decrease dramatically. A good drainage layer helps to keep the substrate healthy by allowing excess water to drain out of the substrate, allows fresh air to circulates, and provides a safe breeding ground for micro fauna.

Drainage layers hold a valuable addition to a vivarium build but so does the drainage layer barrier. This barrier helps to ensure separation between the substrate and the drainage layer.
